Holy Cannoli!

I’m reading “Food Matters” by Mark Bittman, and I came across a statistic that’s blown my mind. According to page 89,

Each American eats an average of 1 cup of sugar a day.

I find this information staggering, and infuriating, it really pisses me off.  The U.S. is obese and loaded with diabetes and yet fast food, packaged food and chain restaurants can’t stop adding sugar to its meals. Why? Because we’re hooked and it’s crazy profitable.

Don’t kid yourself. The  food industry really only cares about profit margins, they don’t give a damn about your health.

One of the best ways to show you’re not impressed? Stop buying that crap. Don’t eat in places advertised on TV. If they’ve got enough cash to run an ad, they’re in it for the money.

It’s not up to them to police our eating, but I think it’s shady to be adding sugar to everything including meat and vegetable dishes. I got a salad at a chain restaurant a few months ago, and the salad dressing was like candy. Not what I was expecting from a vinagrette.

Your money is a powerful tool, it controls corporations. We show our opinion with our spending, so if you don’t like what they’re doing, don’t give them any money. They’ll learn.
