1st Animal Welfare Approved restaurant ever!
- Oct 17th 2011
This is such great news, I’m totally excited about this!
My friends at Grazin’ Angus Acres have opened the first restaurant that has been endorsed by the Animal Welfare Approved program, a non-profit that watches out for the well-being of our livestock.
The following paragraph comes directly from their website:
“The Animal Welfare Approved program audits and certifies family farms raising their animals humanely, outdoors on pasture or range. Farmers who earn the AWA seal benefit from having a third-party verification of their high-welfare practices and consumers benefit by knowing that the humane label means what it says.
Animals are raised outdoors on pasture or range on true family farms with the “most stringent” humane animal welfare standards according to the World Society for the Protection of Animals. Annual audits by experts in the field cover birth to slaughter.
AWA is able to offer this certification and technical and marketing services to farmers at no charge. Because AWA is not financially dependent on farmer fees, the program is unbiased and completely transparent.”
What that means is everything Grazin’ serves has been raised with the utmost care, the most appropriate food and respect and you know what? You can taste the difference and it’s freakin’ awesome!
Everything is local and homemade, all from small farms no more than 11 miles away from the diner. (This fact alone blows my mind, how cool is this?)
The diner is like a dream come true to me, you mean everything is organic, local and the animals are grass fed & finished with no antibiotics and hormones ever? You mean I can eat anything on the menu without questions or guilt? You mean I can get the best burger ever and I don’t have to cook? Sign me up!
I have spent time at Grazin Angus Acres farm, here’s my post about the experience.
Their restaurant is called Grazin’, it’s at 717 Warren Street in Hudson, NY, they’re open Thursdays through Mondays, closed Tuesday & Wednesday. Here’s a link to the website.
I love these guys and am very proud of what they have accomplished, thanks again everybody for treating your animals well and feeding us better than ever, you are pioneers. I really hope you guys are the start of a whole movement, I’d love it if the rest of the farms would treat livestock like living, breathing animals and not just like a commodity.
I hope to be sitting at that counter really soon, congrats Grazin’ Angus Acres, again, you rock!
