Just ’cause it’s called salad doesn’t mean it’s healthy

Almost all restaurants serve salads these days, too bad many of them are calorie and bad fat bombs. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that if there’s fried chicken in it there’s going to be loads of fat, but many people get hung up on the word ‘salad’ and assume it’s somehow more healthy than plain fried chicken.
Take Part dot com has an article called ‘This isn’t Diet Food: 15 Salads Worse Than a Big Mac’ and I’ve got to say, I can’t believe that many these options are considered salad. Just because there’s lettuce? Some choices seem to be pretty good ones until you read the calorie and fat content.
The portion sizes are probably pretty generous but still…
One of the oldest and easiest ways to reduce salad calories is to ask for dressing on the side. I tend to use about 1/4 of what they bring and it’s plenty after tossing it well. If it’s huge, save half for another meal or split it with a friend.
Other ways to cut down on these kinds of salads is to ask for no cheese, they usually have a pretty heavy hand with it. You can always eat the veggies and fruit first, then move on to the meat, but they’re tasty together.
When it comes to salad, be conscious of what’s in it and where it’s from. If you got it at a fast food restaurant it’s not going to be loads better than their other fare.
