Scurvy? No thanks

I saw an article last night about a kid who ate only ramen noodles for a few months and wound up with scurvy. Scurvy is an illness you get when you don’t get enough vitamin C, it can lead to all sorts of hideous problems from tooth loss to anemia, it’s really bad news and easy to prevent.

Vitamin C helps to strengthen our immune system which is the boost we all need especially if we interact with people. The subways are like a mobile clinic lately, the only way to not to get sick is to keep your immune system strong.

Did you know that if you get fresh-squeezed juice you need to drink it quickly, as most of the vitamin C is no longer good after 10 minutes? Crazy, right?  I prefer eating fruit over juicing it so  you get some fiber as well.  The pith (the white part) is full of antioxidants! I’m not saying to eat all of it, but the webbing that stays on the fruit after peeling it is always a good addition to your diet, it helps your blood, among other things.

Greens are loaded with vitamin C too, for best results don’t cook them to death.

I prefer eating my nutrients over taking a vitamin, chewable vitamin C can damage the enamel on your teeth which can lead to serious problems. In this weather, go for at least 2 servings a day, a piece of citrus fruit is one, a half cup of greens is another.

To keep yourself strong and healthy, go for more C.
