What foods should you always have around?

This is a question I get all the time, I think it’s a good one.  I know that after a long day that last thing I want to do is cook forever or try to figure out what to make. With these ingredients, you always have options.

  • Eggs- Get them from a farmer’s market or get cage-free, pasture raised. You don’t want organic because that means the chickens were fed a specific feed (usually corn). If chickens are eating what they’re supposed to they can’t call the eggs organic. Also,  the chickens are being taken better care of than in factory farms which makes for better eggs.
  • Greens-  So many options with green veggies, from a salad to a quick stir-fry, they’re great for you and taste delicious, win win!
  • Sweet Potatoes- Cut a slit and toss ‘em in the oven for an hour at 400 degrees F and you’ve got a healthy, filling meal. Add veggies to make it more interesting.
  • Lemons- Fantastic for you and great in everything from beverages to salad dressings.
  • Beans- Nothing like opening a can of garbanzos, instant protein ready to go into salads, stir-frys, even as a side dish, beans are cheap and full of protein.
  • Lentils- They cook quickly and can be used many different ways, you can even flavor them to your liking. Lentil salads are so good, my favorite are French lentils.
  • Garlic- Loaded with flavor and anti-oxidants, it’s even a natural antibiotic. Add to basically anything to give flavor and a little bite.
  • Onions- Super good for you and easy to add to most anything.
  • Frozen peas- Super handy, you can add them to most meals for a little color and some nutrients.

You will want to get other groceries, but with these you’ll never starve or be short of meal options. Enjoy!
