This post is about euthanasia, if you disagree with it you don’t have to read it. My cat was put to sleep yesterday. She was rushed to the vet’s office because she had labored breathing for no obvious reason. With cats that’s never that’s never a good sign.
It was ugly. There was loads of fluid in her chest. Blood work revealed a rare form of cancer that had hit hard.
The plan was to rush her to the emergency hospital for probably 3 days in ICU and then if she had made it we would have to follow a difficult maintenance schedule for the rest of her life. That would have been horrible and frustrating, as trying to get a pill into her was a feat in itself. She then took a turn for the worst and the decision was made.
It totally sucks. We miss her terribly and are so sad, but she was suffering and in pain. I believe that keeping her alive for our sake would have been a selfish and cruel move.
For me life is about quality, not pain and suffering. If she lived in the wild she would have been gone years ago.
Part of being a good, responsible pet owner is being able to say goodbye when the time comes. It’s not easy and it doesn’t feel good, but I believe it’s the humane thing to do.
She lived to be 15 in a loving home with excellent food, treats, and lots of ninja-kitty play time. She was a happy albeit feisty cat. I miss you Moo, but I’m glad you’re no longer in pain.
Celia!
I am sooo sorry to hear of your loss.
Judy
I am so sorry for your loss. Having just gone through a similar experience, I feel for you. It is never easy to make that permanent decision. You did the right thing.
Everyone at Woofs ‘n Whiskers is greatly saddened by her passing.
Be Well,
